Below Stairs of Hungerford, established in 1974, was set up by Stewart
Hofgartner who has a love of antiques that shines through in his knowledge
of the subject and in the care that he and his staff lavish on the
preparation of items for sale.
As well as being a regular expert for many years on West Berkshire Radio's antiques phone-in, Stewart has appeared on 'Going for a Song' on BBC1, and is a regular vetter at both the 'Antiques for Everyone' and the LAPADA antiques fairs at the NEC, Birmingham.
Stewart Hofgartner also organises the 'Guide to Antiques in Hungerford' brochure
which give details of the two antiques arcades, and the sixteen
antiques shops in the town. Please call or email for a copy.
No modern or reproduction! You can buy with confidence, as particular
care is made to ensure that all stock is the real thing and in good
order, and detailed descriptions and receipts are provided with
all items.

| Just browsing? Many visitors to Below Stairs do
just that, and they are most welcome. For some, the shop and
showrooms are like a visit to a special museum, with the added
advantage that you can buy what you see. |

| The Online Store is an exciting development for
us in 2002, and we hope that you will enjoy browsing through
our stock there too. We have an extensive catalogue but still
cannot show all that we have in stock, so do please email us
for anything that you are searching for. We do maintain a successful
customer requirements file.
New stock is arriving daily as buying is done six days a
week. We purchase regularly from auctions, customers, runners,
private collections and from any source proven to be above
board and reliable.
Thank you for visiting our site.
