Octave Hand Chimes B98 Original, quality, late 19th Century, hand held octave of nickel plated on brass bell domes, mounted inside each other on a central shaft, with a hanging hook to one end and a ribbed ebony hand grip to the other. This would need to be struck with a beater / hammer for no provision for clappers is evident. Two bells are cracked, but only one is dull, otherwise all is complete and in good and working order. Is this a musical instrument from an orchestra, or a novelty octave of bells? One would not want to hold it for very long as it is rather top heavy, the hook at the top, therefore, would enable it to be hung up temporarily whilst taking a rest. 14" long and 3.75" largest diameter.
