Ransomes Certificate of Merit AT12* Original quality, 1931, certificate of merit presented by 'Ransomes Sims and Jeffries Ltd' in an oak and glazed frame, which may well be the original. The certificate was awarded by the "Cheshire Ploughing Society, in January 1931, to T. Dixon for best work in Class 1, won with Ransomes Plough". Hop Leaf Enamel Sign S66 Original quality, 1920's, enamel advertising sign for summonds brewery of Reading. This is the more unusual of the signs with the red hop leaf trademark above the black text on white 'The Hop Leaf'. This shaped sign has a good colour and although there is damage to the enamel the iron backing shape has not been lost and because of the black outline to the leaf most of the areas of damage do not show up badly. The lower right front corner is printed for the manufacturer 'Piccadilly Sign 23 Charing Cross S W. 1'. A good looking sign in fairly good order with no restoration. 29" tall x 28" wide at base. Enamel Telephone Sign on Bracket S53 Original quality, 1920's, blue and white double sided enamel sign, on the original wrought iron wall bracket. The sign details to both both sides 'Telephone', 'Telegrams May be Telephoned'. Colman's Starch Enamel Sign S35 Original quality, 1920's, enamel advertisement for Colman's Starch, with dark blue letters and borders on white. Cobra Polishes Mirror M20* Original quality, 1920's, mirror advertising 'Cobra Polishes' in the original oak frame. A circular picture of a coiled cobra snake to the centre with medals and references to exhibitions in '1905 and 1908' to either side. This mirror is slightly misty and there are several minor blemishes to the mirror silver, but otherwise a superb example. Copper Bovril Urn TU10* Original quality copper hot water Bovril urn, circa 1900/1920's, as used in cafes and teashops. This would be on top of the counter for customers to view the 'Bovril' plaque and the assistant to use the dispensing tap. The urn is in the form of a castle tower with simulated brickworks and a castellated top. The Bovril shield is in cast brass as are the three bun feet and the tap with an ebony handgrip. The plaque to the front details for the maker "J & H Banfill, Coppersmiths and Urn Makers, Gervase St, Old Kent Road, London SE". This is only the third one we have had in 30 years. The Reason Manufacturing Co Brass Figure A32* Original quality, 1920's, brass figure advertising "The Reason Manufacturing Co Ltd of Lewis Road, Brighton". The female figure dressed in a toga style of outfit is holding what could be an early 'Ediswan' type pointed electric light bulb and stands on a circular plinth, before a large circular disc, perhaps simulating to a large gong? This gong is detailed to the front for "The Reason Manufacturing Co Ltd of Lewis Road, Brighton " and to the reverse "Electrolytic Meters, Prepayment Meters and Midget Meters, Arc Lamps, Fireboxes, Demand Indicators, Time Switches and Street Lighting Fittings." The circular plinth is also detailed "Inventions exploited and perfected". An unusual item, the first we have seen and all in the old bronzed finish. Complete and in good order. GKN Screw Display A30 Original quality trade display board of hooks, bolts, screws etc for the manufacturer 'Guest Keen & Nettlefolds Ltd', circa 1900. The full name and trade mark are impressed into the face of the oak frame. This glazed cabinet contains hundreds of items, laid out in an artistic fashion, the items were a representation of goods manufactured by GKN. Eight items were missing and we have now fitted these as best we can, the green interior backboard is rather scruffy, a replacement external rear backing board has been renewed and now all is complete and in good order. Westward Ho Tobacco Mirror A22* Original quality, pre war, tobacconists' shop advertising mirror of a super small size in the original oak frame. This example details 'Westward Ho Smoking Mixtures', also in small text to the lower edge of the mirror, 'Issued by the Imperial Tobacco Co (of Great Britain & Ireland) Ltd'. The mirror has some blemishes but is bright in colour. The original frame has been cleaned and the ply backing board has been replaced with similar. R Fry & Co Counter Ginger Beer Flagon SJ55* Original quality two tone glazed stoneware giant ginger beer bottle, circa 1900. Manufactured for dispensing ginger beer from the shop counter. The tap hole at the base would be on the shop keepers side and the other would be viewed by the customer in the shop. The elaborate detail to the transfer printed crest etc includes 'R Frys & Co Ltd' two fish on a shield and 'Hastings, Brighton & Eastbourne'. The screw on stopper is missing the lower half and has a few chips. The main flagon has retained its galvanised carrying handle and the body is impressed '2'. Some chips to the top and bottom edges but otherwise all is in good order and complete. A super transfer printed counter ginger beer. 8" diameter x 19" tall with the handle down. Huge Copper Spoon and Fork C8* Original quality, 1920's, tinsmith made giant spoon and fork in copper. These were probably made for either a window display or an exhibition.
