This off white coloured ceramic measure has the Mochaware decoration on a sandy coloured band, and a side loop handle. Oak Pulse Measure M110 Original, quality, late 19th century, 'Cooper' made oak pulse measure for measuring dried peas, beans etc. This measure is the first we have seen, with the two measures incorporated in one tub. The oak floor is set at the correct depth for the quart measure stood one way up and the 1/2 gallon when turned over. The oak slats are retained within two blacksmith wrought iron bands and both sides of the floor and one side wall to the outside are impressed "VR No 262" for the Custom and Excise proof. Two brass plaques are also fitted to the outside wall denoting "Quart" and "1/2 gallon". Run of 8 Copper Ale Measures M106 Original, quality, run of eight, late 19th Century, graduated, copper 'Haystack' ale measures with pouring lips and side handles. The largest being four gallons, ranging down to three, two, one and half gallon, quart, half pint and half gill. All are marked to the front with the sizes, all have custom and excise lead stamps, or the remains of, and the following have makers plates - four gallon and two gallon 'Farrow and Jackson', three gallon 'Lumley' and one gallon 'Loftus'. Although all have minor dents and scuffs, they are all complete and in super condition otherwise. All have been polished and lacquered, although the lacquer can be removed, if required, at no extra cost. These measures were used by the government weights and measures / custom and excise departments and this example has a copper flange to the top with a drain tap to ensure the correct measure is issued. The lead seal to the top flange is stamped '5', the steel body is impressed '437' and embossed 'Gallon' and an oval brass label is affixed detailing the maker's name: 'Hardware Plate Co Ltd London SE11'. Some wear and tear dents and knocks to the copper top flange, otherwise all is complete and in good order and has been cleaned and lacquered. 7.25" base diameter and 11" tall. Bate's Saccharometer SI1 Original quality, 18th or 19th century, Bate's patent saccharometer in the original mahogany box, manufactured by 'Buss, 33 Harton Garden, London'. The fitted interior is complete with the brass float, four brass counter weights and the thermometer mounted on a brass backplate. The thermometer plate and the rod on the float are both engraved with the manufacture's name and address, as is the ivorine plaque to the top of the lid.
