'71' beneath 'VR' beneath a crown, beneath 'Half Pint' over an upper case 'E'. The '71' is for Newcastle upon Tyne City, the crown and 'VR' for Queen Victoria. This example has a small chip to the top rim and an inch long hairline crack from the top, otherwise all is in good order. Base 3" diameter, 3.75" tall x 4.5" wide including handle. Bentwood Bushel Measure M48* Original quality bentwood bushel corn measure, circa 1900, with wrought iron straps, rims and side handles. The bottom has been replaced with an oak panel as the original was in very poor condition and the worm to the sidewalls has been well treated. All has been cleaned and refinished and apart from a few minor splits, all is complete and in good order. A good clean custom and excise mark is branded to the outside top of the front and details "ER" beneath a King's crown for King Edward VII, 1901 to 1910, over "4", over "LCC" for London County Council and "Bushel". Parcel Post Measuring Tape M47 Original quality brass cased measuring tape for measuring parcel dimensions for posting. The polished cotton tape is complete with inch divisions up to 6ft and the reverse is stamped 'Postal Parcel Measure'. Each side of the brass case is detailed in full with the maximum dimension permitted to one side and the 'Inland Postal Parcel' rates for the years 1883 to 1886. Bate's Saccharometer SI.1 Original quality, 18th or 19th century, Bate's patent saccharometer in the original mahogany box, manufactured by 'Buss, 33 Harton Garden, London'. The fitted interior is complete with the brass float, four brass counter weights and the thermometer mounted on a brass backplate. The thermometer plate and the rod on the float are both engraved with the manufacture's name and address, as is the ivorine plaque to the top of the lid.
