When the handle is turned from the inside, the door can be locked or unlocked and the 'vacant' will change to and from 'engaged'. The door can only be opened from the outside by a fresh penny once the old penny has dropped (when the knob has been turned to open), or with the attendants key. The lock keep and the keys are replacements made to suit copied from an original. Four Piece Ewer and Basin Set JB14* Four piece original quality matching decorated ceramic ewer and basin with a toothbrush jar and soap dish, circa 1900. Transfer printed to the underside with the maker's name and logo 'Dean's Burslem' with a greyhound on a crown and for the model/pattern 'Ye Old Dresden' The design to the outside incorporates various coloured peony type flowers with foliage on a frogspawn type green decorated background and the insides are offwhite. The steel yard weighing principle is accurate to the ounce and the sliding upright height measure can be used to measure both children and adults using the steel screw in rod and reading the scale where marked with arrows, to the top of the main column. The main base platform and central column are in honey coloured oak, the front scale is marked down boxwood slips with a box wood central rod sliding up and down and the carpet panel also appears to be original. The brass was originally nickel or chrome plated but has now worn back to the brass and all has been lacquered. The weights, when not in use, are stored in a small compartment to the left and rear of the floor section, see a lift up hinged lid. All is in superb and full working order and a great looker in any bathroom. The brass beam is impressed for the maker 'W&T Avery Ltd, Birmingham', and the cup weights are stamped to the top rim respectivly '16','8','4','2' and '1' stones.
