Original quality, 1920's, Grimwades white ceramic storage jar with hoops in relief and a lift off lid, etched to the front is "Lentils". This example is the smallest of seven sizes manufactured and is transfer detailed to the underside of the base and the lid. Under the base it reads in green "The Grimwades Hooped Household jar supplied in 7 sizes 4.5" inch to 10.5", Sago, Rice, Tapioca, Raisins, Currants, Flour, Meal, Salt, Sugar, Peas, Oatmeal, Barley, Sultanas and Lentils". The underside of the lid details an advert for the Grimwades patent quick cooker bowl. Both pieces are perfect and complete and in good order. 4.5" base x 5.75" tall.

Grimwades Oval Currants Storage Jar SJ49*
Original quality oval shaped, off white, ceramic kitchen storage jar with green printing and decoration manufactured by Grimwade. The base has 'Currants' with a laurel wreath with ribbon beneath, a beaded pattern under the top rim and is detailed to the underside 'Hygienic Household Jar, Note Its Merits, Oval Shape, Rounded Interior, Cover That Serves As Scoop So That Contents Need Not Be Touched By Hand' and the 'Registration Number 550735' for the year 1909. The lid also has a beaded decoration to the top outside edge, a central flower design and a repeat of what is beneath the jar base under the lid. The scoop/lid is perfect, but the base is rather crazed and discoloured. There is an underglaze chip to the front of the base, a proper chip towards the back and it does sound rather dull to the tap, otherwise all is complete. Any unusual Grimwade items are hard to find today. Base 4.75" x 3.5" and 6" high. Another similar may be available item code SJ50.

Original, quality, late 19th Century, buff coloured stoneware bottle with a pouring lip and cork, a superb paper label and the original contents. The label details 'Made In England', 'Chr Hansen's Standard Cheese Rennet' with directions for use and various cameos of medals and awards, and a picture of a scene at the 'International Dairy Fair' New York in 1878. The reverse is impressed for the maker of the bottle, 'Price of Bristol'. The coloured label is a little scuffed but complete and the bottle is mint. Rennet is a natural complex of enzymes used in the production of cheese to curdle the milk to produce the curds and whey. All is complete and in good order. 11" high and 4" diameter.

Original quality, 19th century, glazed oval shaped stoneware crock in the form of a cooper made barrel tub with hoops. The exterior is in a pale brown colour and the inside a near cream. The front is embossed with a ribbon banner with flowers over and the details 'Mrs Hunter' and beneath the side handles it is impressed '2' for the size, say 2 gallons and for the maker 'H Kennedy, Barrow? Pottery, Glasgow'. There is a firing crack around some of the bottom edge inside, which is visible from both the inside and out, but it does not leak, otherwise it is in super order with no chips or glazing damage. Could this be for newly laid eggs on a dairy counter? Or perhaps for milk or butter? Top 15" x 12" + 5.5", base 13" x 9.5", widest including side grips 16.5".

Glasgow' for the manufacturer. Typical for this type of Scottish stoneware, the top brown band is impressed with a decorative design. This type of crock did not originally have a matching lid but would have a waxed card lid and a linen top cover tied under the rim. Impressed to the front 'D.C.Knowles, Grocer and Wine Merchant, Market Street, Brechin, 10lb' and to one side 'A.W.Burchan and Co. Pottery Portobello' for the manufacturer. This type of crock did not originally have a matching lid but would have a waxed card lid and a linen top cover tied under the rim. This example has two side grips and the typical decorated impressed band beneath the top rim. It also has two chips, one under the top rim and the other to the bottom edge, otherwise all is complete and in good order. 10.25" top diameter, 7" base + 8.5" tall.

Original, quality, green glass grape storage bottle, circa 1880, embossed to the top surface "Copped Hall Grape Storage Bottle patent applied for No 25693" and "W.Wood and Son Ltd Wood Green" These were used on shelves in the garden store filled with charcoal and water. Bunches of grapes would be cut and stored with the stem in the front upturned aperture and the water was topped up through the top aperture retained with a cork stopper. Some minor chips but otherwise in superb condition and very clean and clear. Not easy to find these days. 12.5" x 2.5" x 3.5" tallest. Price is for each.
