1937 Edward VIII Pewter Tankard CC25 Original quality one pint pewter tankard, with an overlaid blue glass bottom engraved 'ER VIII 1937', to commemorate the coronation of Edward VIII, which never was. The most interesting thing is the pewter plate added to the front, engraved 'Abdicated 11th December 1936'. We have not seen this before. The pewter is stamped to the underside 'Manor' and with the number '2348'. Unfortunately the inner clear glass bottom panel has a crack, although the engraved blue overlaid panel is undamaged. The red and pale blue line decoration are on an off white background with gold lines to the top and bottom. The 'ER' monogram beneath '1902' is to the front with a coat of arms to the reverse and the other detail is 'Edward VII D.G Britanniarum Rev. F.D. Ind. Imperator'. All is bright and clean with only the uppermost gold band on the top rim showing rubbing. 1914 Princess Mary Brass Box M37 Original quality pressed brass box with embossed hinged lid bearing a cameo of Princess Mary, two 'M' monograms and panels around it with the names of countries allied to Great Britain in the 1st World War; Belgium, Japan, Russia, Monte Negro, Serria and France. Complete and in good order. These brass boxes, containing a variety of items dependant on the recipient, were given to all British troops serving overseas for Christmas 1914. The funds for these were raised by Princess Mary, daughter of King George V. Most but not all of the boxes were issued with a pack of cigarettes, a pack of tobacco, a Christmas card in an envelope, a printed photo. of Princess Mary and a silver tipped brass shell case with a pencil inside.
