Pair of Cast Iron Mantel Ornaments MO15* Pair of original quality, late 19th century, cast iron mantel ornaments with both a left and a right handed version of a uniformed soldier mounted on a charging horse. The uniform resembles those worn in the Crimean War, so these ornaments may depict the famous Charge of the Light Brigade at the Battle of Balaclava in 1854. Both are embossed to the reverse with the registration number for the year 1894, 40 years after the battle. These have been cleaned and finished in a coat of clear lacquer. The one facing to the left did have an old repair using a rivetted section of iron plate, now removed and a new weld repair has been made to the reverse being barely visible from the front. Cast Iron Civil War Memorial Door Porter DP39 Original, quality, superbly detailed, cast iron door porter, we think issued to commemorate the end of the US Civil War; for the registration lozenge mark to the reverse is for the year 1865, and the Civil War was 1854 to 1865. The detail includes a sabre, a musket with bayonet, cannons and balls, flags and pennant lances and various other items, all mounted on a plinth with a wreath of laurel leaves to the top, in the form of a memorial. The reverse is impressed with the registration lozenge mark for the year 1865, 'No 183575' and '670'. Copper Jug with Ruskin Mounts J47 Original, quality, tall, narrow copper water jug of an Arts and Crafts form, circa 1900/1920's, with six inset, blue ceramic 'Ruskin' cabachons, a super rivetted pouring lip and a side strap handle. The interior has been fully tinned and the underside is stamped with a logo of two open palmed hands, for the maker Jones Brothers of Wolverhampton. The following is also scratched to the underside: 'Smith Rose 66136'. Poppies Jug JB25 Original, quality, dark coloured, large ceramic ewer, circa 1900, originally part of a jug and basin set. Bishop Stonier Jug JB24 Original, quality, cream coloured ceramic ewer, originally part of a jug and basin set. This example is decorated with coloured scenes of geese on a pontoon over a pond with bullrushes and water lilies and has anaesthetic movement design border to the topside and underside of the rim. Transfer printed to the underside with the logo for "Oriental Ivory" manufactured by "Bishop Stonier" and has the embossed registration number for the year 1887 and "Severn" for the pattern. Four Piece Ewer and Basin Set JB14* Four piece original quality matching decorated ceramic ewer and basin with a toothbrush jar and soap dish, circa 1900. Transfer printed to the underside with the maker's name and logo 'Dean's Burslem' with a greyhound on a crown and for the model/pattern 'Ye Old Dresden' The design to the outside incorporates various coloured peony type flowers with foliage on a frogspawn type green decorated background and the insides are offwhite. No chips or cracks to the pieces apart from two glazing chips to the drain holes in the soap dish inner drainer. The basin is rather crazed inside and rings dull and the inner drainer to the soap dish is discoloured. A great looking toilet wash set nevertheless and very suitable for use. Copeland Child's Chamberpot CP15* Original quality, superb 19th century, child's blue and white chamberpot; it actually seems a little small for a child. Wedgwood Footbath FB3 Original, quality, early 19th Century, cream coloured ceramic oval shaped footbath, with the banded design to the body and loop handles to each end. This example could be earlier and it may well be creamware. Impressed to the underside 'Wedgwood' in upper case. The downside is that there is damage: a large chip to the rim and crack in the floor all the way round, just inside the outer wall. Watsons' Toffee Ceramic Tankard A38 Original, quality 1920's, blue and white, ceramic tankard, manufactured by Maling for the Watsons' Toffee Works, Newcastle-Upon-Tyne. The body and side handle are covered in a blue and white, straw like design with two cameo pictures: one of 'The 1929 Exhibition Building, Newcastle-Upon-Tyne' and the other of 'The New Tyne High Level Four Swing Bridges, Newcastle-Upon-Tyne'. Artillery Shell Cocktail Shaker CS2* Original, quality cocktail shaker manufactured from 1918 to 1921 by The Gorham Company in the US. One of the tallest cocktail shakers ever produced. The lower section is a real brass shell case and would have contained cocktail glasses apparently and the top section, in nickel with copper and brass mounts, serves as the shaker. The underside of both the brass shellcase and the nickel shaker are both impressed 'Fac-Simile Eighteen Pounder Shrapnel Shell' and 'Patent Applied for in America & Foreign Countries'. The brass lower section is also engraved with a large upper cased 'R' for the previous owner. The brass nose cone, although a tight fit, will pull off to enable the shaker to be filled and the small nose will also pull off to reveal the pouring spout and filter. Alas, no cocktail glasses, if there ever were any but otherwise all is complete and in good and working order. A spectacular, very unusual piece. Base diameter 4". Silver Mounted Horse's Hoof Matchstriker MS14 Original, quality hallmarked silver mounted horse's hoof fashioned for a matchstriker. Travelling 3 Fold Mirror M85* Original quality superb continental three fold vanity mirror, circa 1900/1920's. The main back frame is simulated bamboo carved in stained beech. The two wing mirrors have brass frames and black and gold coloured chinoiserie pictorial backing panels. The brass frames are decorated with a continuous embossed design and are marked "JB" and "Brevette". All the hinged joints are in brass and the wooden frame has a chain mounted to the top edge, for wall hanging. Carved Wooden Eagle CW1 Original superb quality carved wooden eagle, circa 1900, with wings spread and perched upon a rock all in Swiss walnut, with glass eyes. Very realistic with fine detail to the feathers, head, talons, flowers etc; in fact, all of a very high standard. These carvings were generally referred to as 'Black Forest' but were mainly all carved in Switzerland. Copper Bovril Urn TU10* Original, quality copper hot water Bovril urn, circa 1900/1920's, as used in cafes and teashops. This would be on top of the counter for customers to view the 'Bovril' plaque and the assistant to use the dispensing tap. The urn is in the form of a castle tower with simulated brickworks and a castellated top. The Bovril shield is in cast brass as are the three bun feet and the tap with an ebony handgrip. The plaque to the front details for the maker "J & H Banfill, Coppersmiths and Urn Makers, Gervase St, Old Kent Road, London SE". This is only the third one we have had in 30 years. Brass Banded Oak Bucket B2 Original quality, late 19th century, superb oak bucket made in the form of a barrel with heavy brass bands, screws and a swing handle. The bands are scallop engraved to the edges and the top band reads 'One Lord' in upper case, the second reads 'One Faith' and the third 'One Baptism'. Each dome headed screw is cross slotted. The oak has been cleaned and refinished and all the brass has been lacquered. A very unusual item in wonderful and complete condition. Old Father Time Brass Wall Calendar D7 Original quality, 1920's, pressed brass panel depicting Old Father Time sitting in a chair, holding a scythe in one hand and a sand timer in the other. 'Father Time' is embossed to the right hand corner and the three jars on the shelf are dated 1910, 1909 and 1908. A complete set of ivorine calendar panels is retained to the upper left hand corner, although some are a little faded. The whole panel has been fitted on a replacement oak board copied from the original. The panel was originally nickel plated on brass, but most of the plating has been lost over the years and is now a good brass finish which has been polished and lacquered.
