Mordan Cast Iron Bookpress BP5 Original, quality, mid to late 19th Century, cast iron bookpress with a 14.75" x 10" working bed surface, some of the original gilt coachlined paintwork and the original brass counter balance weights and fittings. The oval maker's plate to the top is detailed: 'S. Mordan & Co Maker London'. All has been cleaned and polished and lacquered and is complete and in good and working order. A great looking press. Brass Umbrella Stand US44 Original, quality, semi circular, brass umbrella stand circa 1900, with three brass uprights mounted on a heavy cast iron base and with a semi circular, five division top section and turned brass finials. 	Chrome Umbrella Stand US43 Original, quality, 1920's/30's, chrome on brass umbrella stand, with eight divisions to the top section and four corner pillars with finials, all mounted to the cast iron rectangular base and complete with a lift out, tin drip pan. Pair of Semi-Circular Brass Umbrella Stands US38 A pair of original, quality 1920's half round brass umbrella stands, with cast iron bases, sectioned tops and turned brass finials. 	Cast Iron Mantel Ornament MO18* Original quality, late 19th century, cast iron mantel ornament in the form of a Victorian gent with a dog on a lead. This man is said to be 'Robson Weallans' a solicitor from Sunderland but it may of course be Bill Sykes and his bull mastiff from Dickens' 'Oliver Twist' The reverse is impressed 'Designed by J.G Cowley'. Prancing Horse Brass Mantel Ornament MO16* Original quality, late 19th century, cast brass mantel ornament in the form of a prancing horse with a girth strap on, mounted on a rectangular shaped plinth. 	Pair of Cast Iron Mantel Ornaments MO15* Pair of original quality, late 19th century, cast iron mantel ornaments with both a left and a right handed version of a uniformed soldier mounted on a charging horse. The uniform resembles those worn in the Crimean War, so these ornaments may depict the famous Charge of the Light Brigade at the Battle of Balaclava in 1854. Both are embossed to the reverse with the registration number for the year 1894, 40 years after the battle. These have been cleaned and finished in a coat of clear lacquer. The one facing to the left did have an old repair using a rivetted section of iron plate, now removed and a new weld repair has been made to the reverse being barely visible from the front. Both are now complete and in good order, an impressive pair of castings. Base 12.5", height 9.25" and 2" front to back. Price is for the pair. Click on photo for larger and other views. Cast Iron Civil War Memorial Door Porter DP39 Original, quality, superbly detailed, cast iron door porter, we think issued to commemorate the end of the US Civil War; for the registration lozenge mark to the reverse is for the year 1865, and the Civil War was 1854 to 1865. The detail includes a sabre, a musket with bayonet, cannons and balls, flags and pennant lances and various other items, all mounted on a plinth with a wreath of laurel leaves to the top, in the form of a memorial. The reverse is impressed with the registration lozenge mark for the year 1865, 'No 183575' and '670'. Several very minor repairs have been made, all has been cleaned and lacquered and is complete and in superb order. 17.5" high, 9.5" wide at base and 5" front to back at base. 	Brass Door Porter DP38 Original, quality, late 19th century cast brass door porter with lead infill to the base for a counter weight. This example, the first we have seen in this form has a stylised Hibiscus flower head to the top as a hand grip and is in complete and in superb order. 	Pair of 1st World War Decorated Brass Shell Cases SC75 A pair of original, quality, brass shell cases, 'trench art' decorated with shaped and cut top rims and punch engraved detail to the front of each, of leaves and flowers, and to one, 'Souvenir Loos 1914', and the other, ' Arras of The Great War Vimy Ridge 1919'. The undersides have many stamps and numbers, including '18 Pr', 'Lot B' and one has '1917' and the other '1918'. Finnigan's Oak Magazine Rack MR15 Original, quality, three tier, light oak, floor standing newspaper / magazine rack in a serious Arts and Crafts form circa 1900/1920's, with kick-out front feet, cut out side panels for grips, three shaped internal sections with staggered floors and five cut out holes to the back panel as decoration. A small brass label is affixed to the lower back panel, detailing the maker / retailer 'Finnigan's Ltd, Manchester and Liverpool'. 	Revolving Brass Magazine Rack MR14 Original, quality, late 19th Century revolving brass, floor standing magazine rack in the aesthetic movement style, with an oak base and mounted on a tripod stand. The two semi-circular brass mesh panels are decorated with copper mounts of a bamboo circle, with a bird and ivy leaves. The oak has been refinished and the brass and copper polished and lacquered, and all is complete and in good and working order. A very unusual example. Brass Magazine Rack MR2 Original quality late, 19th century, brass newspaper / magazine rack, of an unusual design, on an oak base. Marked to the underside of the base 'WT&S' for the maker William Tonks & Son of Birmingham. Originally would have been fitted with a floor stand but now a side table model. The ball feet are old replacements and an oak infill has been fitted to the underside, now complete and in good and working order and the brass has been lacquered. Base 14" x 6" x 14" tall. 	Stones Patent Newspaper Rack NR1 Original quality oak newspaper rack stamped "Stone's Patent" "The Banbury File for Newspapers" "no 8474. 1887". The two holes on the back board are for wall mounting and the strong wire spring clip is to retain the newspapers, a good golden oak colour. The main body is detailed 'Star Vacuum Cleaner' with a patent number for the year 1911 and 'British Made'. The canvas bellows are in good order and all works well, but it's not very effective. 	Bright Blue Ewer J53 Original, quality, 1920's, 'Brannum' type, terracotta wash jug from a toilet ewer and basin set, with a bright blue colour and glaze including the inside and underside. The underside is impressed 'Dunhurst' or similar and the glazing has chipped away from beneath the pouring lip, otherwise complete and in good order. 11" tall, 7" wide and 10.5" back to front including handle. Copper Jug with Ruskin Mounts J47 Original, quality, tall, narrow copper water jug of an Arts and Crafts form, circa 1900/1920's, with six inset, blue ceramic 'Ruskin' cabachons, a super rivetted pouring lip and a side strap handle. The interior has been fully tinned and the underside is stamped with a logo of two open palmed hands, for the maker Jones Brothers of Wolverhampton. The following is also scratched to the underside: 'Smith Rose 66136'. One cabachon is cracked, but otherwise all is complete and in good order and has been polished and lacquered; an elegant jug. 12" high x 5" diameter at base x 7.5" wide including handle and pouring lip. 	Brass Jug J40* Original quality, late 19th century, brass water jug in an Aesthetic Movement style, with a good pouring lip and shaped side handle. Stamped to the underside "4" for its size four pints and "3JM". It looks like a 'Perry and Sons' jug put it is not marked as such. Has been polished and all is complete and in good order. Doulton Leatherware Jug J36 Original quality Doulton of Lambeth ceramic jug, circa 1900, similating an ancient leather jug with a hallmarked silver rim, circa 1900. This dark brown glazed jug is very realistic, which looks and feels just like an 17th or 18th century leather jug with the textured finish and stitched seams. The impressed marks to the underside are for the manufacturer 'Doulton of Lambeth' with various dates and artist codes most of which are not too clear. 	Benson Copper Jug J25* Original quality copper jug, circa 1880/1900, with an enamelled liner, brass fittings and a horn finial to the hinged lid. This insulated tapered shaped jug is stamped to the reverse of the brass side handle for the Arts & Crafts designer 'W.A.S Benson', and also the underside of the jug is stamped 'H'. 	Copper Jardiniere J21 Original quality copper jardiniere, circa 1900, in a poppy seed head shape. The upper half of the body is embossed with an overall beaded design above a plain lower half and the top flared rim is crimped and grooved. Some old holes drilled for drainage to the base. Large Copper Jardiniere J12 Very large original quality Art Nouveau copper jardiniere, circa 1880/1900. The beaten design is in three re-occurring panels to the middle section, beneath the flared out top. 	Pair of Doulton Tilting Ewers JB32 A pair of original, quality, superb, late 19th century, Doulton tilting wash jugs on the original cast iron stands. These very unusual items are very few and far between and are complete and in good order. We have had three before in over thirty years, but never a pair. The decoration is yellow and brown with acanthus leaves and flowers and vines on an ivory background. The undersides are transfer printed to one end with the UK registration number for the year 1890, 'US Trademark May 12th 1891' and the US patent June 30th 1891, and to the other end 'Doulton Burslem England', 'Trademark' and a picture detailing 'Royles Patent Toilet Aquarius'. The cast iron stands do show some of the original paintwork, but this has been over painted in a darker brown at a later time. These stands are decorated in relief and incorporate acanthus leaf forms and have wooden rollers to assist the tilting action of the ewer. The undersides also have an embossed registration number for the year 1890. All is complete, perfect and in good working order. So special and a pair no less. Bishop Stonier Jug JB24 Original, quality, cream coloured ceramic ewer, originally part of a jug and basin set. This example is decorated with coloured scenes of geese on a pontoon over a pond with bullrushes and water lilies and has anaesthetic movement design border to the topside and underside of the rim. Transfer printed to the underside with the logo for "Oriental Ivory" manufactured by "Bishop Stonier" and has the embossed registration number for the year 1887 and "Severn" for the pattern. Four Piece Ewer and Basin Set JB14* Four piece original quality matching decorated ceramic ewer and basin with a toothbrush jar and soap dish, circa 1900. Transfer printed to the underside with the maker's name and logo 'Dean's Burslem' with a greyhound on a crown and for the model/pattern 'Ye Old Dresden' The design to the outside incorporates various coloured peony type flowers with foliage on a frogspawn type green decorated background and the insides are offwhite. No chips or cracks to the pieces apart from two glazing chips to the drain holes in the soap dish inner drainer. Ceramic Footbath FB4 Original, quality, mid 19th century, oval shaped, white ceramic footbath with a gilt decorative band around the centre, a pair of loop handles to the ends and gilt lines to the top, base and handles. Impressed to the underside with the monogram 'JD & Co' for the manufacturer J. Dummock and Co of the Staffordshire Potteries, this mark was for 1862 - 1878. One or two faded or worn areas on the gilding and a very fine, short hairline crack to the top rim, around 1.5" long. Otherwise, all is complete and in good order. 	Brass Ashes Pan SA20 Original, quality 1920's / 30's ? brass corner shaped pan, with a cast brass front, mounted with a ribbon shaped plaque detailing 'Ashes'. The floor and sides are in sheet brass, one side has two slotted holes to slide over screw heads and the base is impressed 'Frascati'. A great quality piece of work, but what is it for? Silver Mounted Horse's Hoof Matchstriker MS14 Original, quality hallmarked silver mounted horse's hoof fashioned for a matchstriker. The top is engraved 'Sambo 1874' and both the top mount and the silver horse shoe to the base are hallmarked to include 'S&C' for the maker. The store for the matches is recessed into the simulated horse hair. All is very realistic, of great quality and complete and in good order. 4.5" x 5.5" and 3.5" tall. 	Brass on Oak Hall Valet B3 Original, quality 1920's hall valet with a shaped oak backboard, mounted with brass fittings: a pair of brass backed clothes brushes, a match holder and others. Each fitting has the consistent embossed pattern. The backboard has a brass wall mounting plate to the top and all is polished and lacquered and in good order. Pair of Gentleman's Ivory Hair Brushes B2 A pair of original, late 19th century, superb quality gentleman's hair brushes, with nylon bristles and Elephant Tusk ivory backs. Each brush is engraved to the end 'E. B. W.' for the original owner. Unusual to find these with the natural surface of ivory used and worthy of note is the polished sections, showing good graining to the ivory. Brass Footman FM1* Original quality heavy cast brass footman with two false drawers over the cabriole front legs and two side handles. This example is constructed from five cast brass panels, each impressed to the reverse with the registration number for the year 1904 and mounted with legs and side handles. 	Travelling 3 Fold Mirror M85* Original quality superb continental three fold vanity mirror, circa 1900/1920's. The main back frame is simulated bamboo carved in stained beech. The two wing mirrors have brass frames and black and gold coloured chinoiserie pictorial backing panels. The brass frames are decorated with a continuous embossed design and are marked "JB" and "Brevette". All the hinged joints are in brass and the wooden frame has a chain mounted to the top edge, for wall hanging. 	Carved Wooden Dog CW2 Original, quality, late 19th Century, superb, carved standing dog of the St Bernard type; very realistic and proportioned in Swiss walnut with glass eyes and fine carved detail and colouring. These carvings were generally referred to as 'Black Forest', but were mainly carved in Switzerland. No damage, no chips, no repairs and complete. 	Art Union Copper Tazza T1 Original quality, early 19th century, copper 'Tazza' decorated with a border in relief of putti surrounded with vines and leaves all mounted on a circular foot, with a copper label to the underside of the foot engraved 'Art Union, London'. Copper Bovril Urn TU10* Original, quality copper hot water Bovril urn, circa 1900/1920's, as used in cafes and teashops. This would be on top of the counter for customers to view the 'Bovril' plaque and the assistant to use the dispensing tap. The urn is in the form of a castle tower with simulated brickworks and a castellated top. The Bovril shield is in cast brass as are the three bun feet and the tap with an ebony handgrip. The plaque to the front details for the maker "J & H Banfill, Coppersmiths and Urn Makers, Gervase St, Old Kent Road, London SE". This is only the third one we have had in 30 years. A great looking item. All has been polished, lacquered and is complete and in good and working order. 17.75" tall x 10" top diameter, 14" wide including tap and 12.75" base diameter. 	Brass Watch / Pen Stand WS2* Original quality cast brass watch or pen stand, circa 1900, in the form of a horseshoe with four pairs of protruding nails, a central hook for suspending a pocket watch, a jockey hat finial to the top and a hinged easel backstand. Why a watch stand combined with a pen stand, I do not know, but a quirky desk accessory never the less. Brass Banded Oak Bucket B2 Original quality, late 19th century, superb oak bucket made in the form of a barrel with heavy brass bands, screws and a swing handle. The bands are scallop engraved to the edges and the top band reads 'One Lord' in upper case, the second reads 'One Faith' and the third 'One Baptism'. Each dome headed screw is cross slotted. The oak has been cleaned and refinished and all the brass has been lacquered. A very unusual item in wonderful and complete condition. 	Old Father Time Brass Wall Calendar D7 Original quality, 1920's, pressed brass panel depicting Old Father Time sitting in a chair, holding a scythe in one hand and a sand timer in the other. 'Father Time' is embossed to the right hand corner and the three jars on the shelf are dated 1910, 1909 and 1908. A complete set of ivorine calendar panels is retained to the upper left hand corner, although some are a little faded. The whole panel has been fitted on a replacement oak board copied from the original. The panel was originally nickel plated on brass, but most of the plating has been lost over the years and is now a good brass finish which has been polished and lacquered.
