Pair of Cast Iron Mantel Ornaments MO15 Pair of original quality, late 19th century, cast iron mantel ornaments with both a left and a right handed version of a uniformed soldier mounted on a charging horse. The uniform resembles those worn in the Crimean War, so these ornaments may depict the famous Charge of the Light Brigade at the Battle of Balaclava in 1854. Both are embossed to the reverse with the registration number for the year 1894, 40 years after the battle. These have been cleaned and finished in a coat of clear lacquer. The one facing to the left did have an old repair using a rivetted section of iron plate, now removed and a new weld repair has been made to the reverse being barely visible from the front. Cast Iron Civil War Memorial Door Porter DP39 Original, quality, superbly detailed, cast iron door porter, we think issued to commemorate the end of the US Civil War; for the registration lozenge mark to the reverse is for the year 1865, and the Civil War was 1854 to 1865. The detail includes a sabre, a musket with bayonet, cannons and balls, flags and pennant lances and various other items, all mounted on a plinth with a wreath of laurel leaves to the top, in the form of a memorial. The reverse is impressed with the registration lozenge mark for the year 1865, 'No 183575' and '670'. Copeland Chamberpot CP33 Original, quality, late 19th Century, cream coloured chamberpot with sepia decoration in the Aesthetic Movement style. Other decorations include two pairs of flying cranes, two scrolls of fruit blossom and flowers to the handle and top rim. Brown Westhead and Moore Ceramic Footbath FB6 Original, quality, mid to late 19th Century, cream coloured, glazed ceramic footbath of a bellied form, hand grips to each end and a blue detailed decoration to both sides of convolvulus flowers and leaves. Remains of a gilded line to the top rim and to the handles can still be seen and, most important of all, this footbath is seriously damaged, with one crack running from the top on one side to the base and from the top on the otherside to the base with a horizontal crack halfway down also. Some general discolouration is evident to the inside and the underside is impressed for the manufacturer: 'Brown Westhead Moore and Co'. White Ceramic Footbath FB5 Original, quality, mid to late 19th Century, large, white glazed ceramic footbath with embossed bands to the sides and hand grips to each end. Although this footbath is heavy and sturdy, it does have some cracks which are generally hard to spot, but nevertheless one is at one end from the top to the base and into the floor and another is around the bottom edge. The hinged top lid with a lock and key, opens to reveal five clear glass tubes for the coins; two tubes for 2/6 (half crown), two for 2/- (florin) and one for 1/- (shillings). One coin from each tube equals 10/-. The bottom drawer at the front, when pulled out, will release one coin from each tube onto the brass slope, this action is required twice for £1 worth of change. The cabinet is all original and in the original finish, with the remains of two transfers, detailing 'Quicktil' and 'Patent 1926', it comes with a large quantity of coins in the tubes and one 10/- note and one £1 note. The five side slots will take sixpences, shillings, threepences and pennies or half crowns and the hole to the underside will take the banknotes. The brass plaque to the top details 'Lloyds Bank Ltd' and the underside is marked with a patent number for the year 1921. I understand the banks would have held the key. Toleware Tray T96 Original, quality, late 19th century, ovoid shaped pressed tin tea tray, with a shaped outer edge and a decorated topside. The decoration is in the form of four panels of handpainted flowers within gilded frames around the outer flange, and a central back panel, also with a gilded border. The general background is a buff green colour and the reverse is in all black japanned, with some small painted reference numbers "1159" and "01822". Some scuffs and scratches and small patches with the decoration missing, but otherwise a superbly decorated toleware tray. All original with no signs of touching up. 27" x 23" x 1.25". Oak Tantalus T5 Original, quality, late 19th century, oak tantalus, with a locking top rail, brass mounts and three cut glass decanters with stoppers. The decanters are in superb order, with just one tiny inner rim chip and the stoppers each have minor chips to the stub ends. The brass fittings, lock and handle were originally nickel plated, but now are polished through to the brass and the lock plate is impressed "EPNS". The honey coloured oak has been cleaned and waxed, the brass has been polished and lacquered. All is complete and in good order. WMF 3 Bottle Tantalus T4 Original, quality 1920's, silver plated tantalus, with a locking top cover, the original key and the three original cut glass decanters with stoppers. The underside is stamped for the maker "WMF" and the top section beneath the carry handle is engraved "Presented To Major E.R. O'Connor M.C. by NCO's and Men of C.Coy, on His Retirement After 36 Years Service" and "The Kings Own", with the lion passant. Not a chip or any damage to the three cut glass decanters or stoppers and no rubbing to the silver plate, in fact all is in super order, a good bright finish and complete. Tantalus with Jewellery Drawer T3 Original, quality, late 19th century, tantalus with three matching hobnail cut glass mini decanters in a honey coloured oak stand, with a pull out jewel drawer with lock and key to the base. The bottle stand is mounted with a lockable swivel top and carry handle. The Bramah lock to one end is impressed with a crown and "Betjemanns Patent 45717" and the other end again with a crown and "The Tantalus". The drawer unit to the base is mounted with four decorative metal mounts and the drawer has a matching keyhole surround. All the metal mounts, the swivel top and locking mechanism were originally silver plated, but much has worn through, showing the brass from underneath these have now been lacquered. The jewellery drawer is fully lined in pale blue shot silk and royal blue velvet and has a ring section to the front. The key to the drawer and the key to the bramah lock are both replacements made to suit and the underside has the original pink velvet covering and a scruffy but legible label detailing instructions for use. A chip to one of the shoulders on one glass decanter, otherwise all is complete and in superb order and fully functional. Travelling 3 Fold Mirror M85 Original quality superb continental three fold vanity mirror, circa 1900/1920's. The main back frame is simulated bamboo carved in stained beech. The two wing mirrors have brass frames and black and gold coloured chinoiserie pictorial backing panels. The brass frames are decorated with a continuous embossed design and are marked "JB" and "Brevette". All the hinged joints are in brass and the wooden frame has a chain mounted to the top edge, for wall hanging. A superb travelling mirror, the best we have seen of this type and in super, clean, original condition. Folded flat 12" x 9.75" + 1" front to back, opened out 12" x 23" + 1.5" front to back. Old Father Time Brass Wall Calendar D7 Original quality, 1920's, pressed brass panel depicting Old Father Time sitting in a chair, holding a scythe in one hand and a sand timer in the other. 'Father Time' is embossed to the right hand corner and the three jars on the shelf are dated 1910, 1909 and 1908. A complete set of ivorine calendar panels is retained to the upper left hand corner, although some are a little faded. The whole panel has been fitted on a replacement oak board copied from the original. The panel was originally nickel plated on brass, but most of the plating has been lost over the years and is now a good brass finish which has been polished and lacquered. Witches Ball WB4 Original, quality, late 19th Century, blown glass, gold coloured, spherical shop decoration, referred to as a 'Witches Ball'. If you are superstituous these are said to have powers to frighten away witches and evil spirits. I am not superstituous so these are just decorative. This example has minor blemishes to the internal silvering, otherwise all is complete and in good order and still retains its original brass hanging ring and collar.
