	Copper Banker's Shovel FI.245 Original, quality 1920's, copper banker's scoop with a steel leading edge and a rosewood handle. These were used to shovel coins into bags - hence the steel front edge, which is much harder wearing compared to copper. Interesting dovetail jointing. The top of the rosewood handle has been burnt, but otherwise all is complete and in good and working order. Ideal also for a coal box shovel. 13" x 5.5" wide x 4". 4 Piece Set of Bayonet Fire Irons FI223 Original, quality set of fireside irons, comprising shovel, tongs, poker and brush, all fashioned using French bayonets. These were made circa 1870, with steel bayonets with wood and brass grips and made around 1895 (for the shovel pan is stamped with the registration number for the same year, and has been used with nothing else). Each bayonet has various armourer's marks to both the guard and the blade, and the tongs have been fashioned from the bayonet and the sheath. Each spine of the blades is engraved in French and with a date. Two are 1877, one is 1878 and the other is illegible. I have had other sets of these bayonet fire irons before, always using the same type of bayonet, and always only three pieces. This is the first I have seen with a brush and is most certainly the best set I have seen to date, and what a wild shape to the tongs. All is complete and in amazing condition. 3 Piece Set of Brass Fire Irons FI.217 Original, quality, set of three matching, brass fire irons circa 1880, comprising tongs, shovel and poker all in the original lacquered finish. These pieces, in the Arts and Crafts style, are each impressed with the orb and cross maker's mark for Benham and Froud, and are in superb, little used condition. 	3 Piece Set of Engraved Brass Fire Irons FI.216 Original, quality, set of three matching, engraved, brass, fire irons comprising shovel, tongs and poker. The spade of the shovel is stamped to the reverse with the registration number for the year 1889 and all three parts have engraved designs to the handles and also to the shoulder of the tongs. WT & S Fire Iron Tidy FI.131 Original quality, late 19th century, rectangular shaped brass fire iron tidy with a ridged design to the edge and a ribbed grip finial. The whole is mounted on a heavy cast iron base, impressed with 'WT&S' for the makers William Tonks & Son of Birmingham. All has been polished and lacquered and is complete and in good order. These were originally designed to stand on the hearth within a fender, without a floor and the fire irons would rest between the ends of the fender and the tidy. Base 10" x 3.5" x 3" high. 	Brass Coal Helmet CH53 Original, late 19th Century, top quality, brass coal helmet with the original matching scoop with an ebonised wooden handle. This example has a swing over handle, a grip to the rear and is mounted on a circular foot at the base.The underside of the foot is impressed with the orb and cross logo for the manufacturer Benham and Froud and '17'. Brass Coal Helmet CH52 Original, quality, superb, late 19th Century, decorated brass coal helmet with a hinged lid, original matching shovel and ebony handles. This amazing coal vase has deep relief embossed designs to the top and to the lid, and has fancy, cast brass handle supports and mount to the shovel. The wooden grips are both replacements, turned in ebony and copied from the damaged originals. The underside of the base is impressed with the orb and cross logo for the manufacturer 'Benham and Froud', and the nose of the lid is impressed with the registration lozenge mark for the year 1882. All has been polished and lacquered and is complete and in superb condition throughout. A real stunner. Total height 20.5" and 13" wide, 18.5" front to back, base 9.5" diameter. Benham and Froud Brass Coal Helmet CH49 Original, quality, superb brass coal helmet circa 1900 with a swing over handle, a rear grip, and an embossed and engraved, decorated top half cover. The decoration is in the form of acanthus leaves and flowers. This oval shaped coal helmet is mounted on a deep foot base and has a replacement floor fitted made to suit. The original manufacturer's trade mark stamp has been cut from the original damaged floor and fitted to the fresh one. A super coal helmet, polished and lacquered and complete and in good and working order. 20" tall with handle up, 16" tall with handle down, 12" wide and 16" front to back. 	Copper Coal Helmet CH48 Original, quality, late 19th century, stunning copper coal helmet with the original turned ebony handgrips. This example has a super shape to the body and cast pink brass mounts to the handles and is mounted on a circular foot. Although this is not marked as such I am convinced it was manufactured by 'Benham and Froud' of London and Birmingham. Copper & Wrought Iron Coal Bucket CH47 Original, quality copper coal bucket, circa 1900, with a wrought iron frame and swing handle. The circular based copper bucket has four large dimples to the sides and is fitted within an Art Novueau style blacksmith made wrought iron frame with curled wrought iron feet to the underside and a swing handle to the top. An unusual example complete and in good and working order. The copper has been polished and lacquered and the ironwork reapainted. 27" high with handle up, 20" high with handle down and total 15.5" wide x 15.5" front to back. 	Copper Coal Helmet CH46 Original, quality engraved copper coal helmet, circa 1900, with a swing over top handle and a grip to the rear. The top half cover is beaten and engraved with flowers, leaves and a shell motif and the foot is engraved and beaten with the same designs in two panels. The plates beneath the swing handle hinge pins are in the form of ivy leaves. All is complete and in superb and working order. A well above average coal helmet. 20.5" high with handle up x 12" x 16" front to back front to back and 9.5" foot. Click on photo for larger and other views. Price: £250.00


Pair of Benham & Froud Copper Coal Helmets CH39 Pair of original quality, late 19th century, superb copper and wrought iron coal buckets, these are very likely to be designed by Dr. Christopher Dresser and are marked with the registration number for the year 1891 and the 'orb and cross' logo for the manufacturer 'Benham and Froud' of London who did manufacture many of Dresser's designs. The wrought iron has been cleaned and lacquered and the copper polished, one small repair has been made to the leading edge of one, see picture number seven. The very near matching brass shovels with turned oak handles are replacements of similar age to the coal scoops and are a superb fit to the loop inside the roof of the coal container. For some strange reason the reeded copper handles to the top of the bins are of a slightly different reed, but otherwise both the coal buckets are identical. The registration number is stamped to the front lower edge and the orb and cross logo is to the centre of the underside. There are a few very very minor dents to the copper bodies, almost not worth mentioning and some minor pitting, all is otherwise in superb order. Very, eye catching, very decorative, very usable and can you believe it a matching pair. Maximum 15" wide at handle 17.5" high at handle 20" front to back of the body, body only 12" wide x 20" front to back and shovels 13.5" x 5.5". 	Brass Coalbox CB8 Original, quality, 1920's, semi-circular, brass coalbox on three cast brass feet, with the original lift out galvanised liner and laurel leaf, swag decoration to the hinged lid. All has been polished and lacquered, a replacement floor has been fitted to the liner and now all is complete and in good and working order. 15.75" wide, 13.5" high and 12.5" front to back. Copper Coal Vase CB6 Original quality Art Nouveau copper coal vase, circa 1900 to 1920's, with shaped copper side handles, four decorative feet and a lift out rising shaped lid with a ball finial knob. The body and lid are in the beaten copper finish and the underside is stamped "British Make Soutterware" and the logo for Willam Soutter and son of Birmingham. This appears not to have ever had a liner and could have been offered in the manufacturers catalogue as a Jardiniere without the lid as well as a coal vase with. 	Pair of Decorated Fireside Bellows B22 A pair of original, quality, late 19th Century, elm fireside bellows with most of the original transfer and hand painted finish. These bellows have been refurbished with new leather and brass studs, have been fully overhauled and now are complete and in good and working order. Fireside Bellows B19 Original, quality, mid 19th century, hand operated, decorated tin fireside bellows. These very unusual bellows are cranked with a handle which operates a revolving fan to the inside. Most of the highly decorated original finish remains. A strip of glass paper has been added to the cranking wheel edge to ensure a better grip and all is complete and in good and working order. 22" x 6.5" x 5.5" Click on photo for larger or other views. 	Queen Fire-Lighting Fan B4 Original quality, 19th century, clockwork fire-lighting fan, with a cast iron body and a steel cover over the clockworks. Marked with the patent number 14985. This gadget would be hooked on the front bars of a fire or kitchen range and, after winding up the mechanism with the large side wingnut key and having soaked the wadding with meths., the fan would blow the flame forward into the fire (it actually shoots the flame forward by at least 6"). This would be left on the bars until the fire was alight. Some of the original painted decoration is still evident to the steel cover and, apart from an old repair to the cast iron mounting hook, all is complete and in good and working order. Cast Iron Fire Kerb F114 Original, quality, cast iron fire kerb with the original sheet steel floor, circa 1900. The cast iron is fretted with an Aesthetic Movement design, has been cleaned and lacquered and the floor repainted. All is complete and in good and working order. 	Cast Iron Fire Kerb F113 Original, quality, late 19th Century, very detailed, cast iron fire kerb with the original sheet steel floor. The fretted cast ironwork is in the form of entwining tendrils and leaves. All is complete and in superb order, with the cast iron cleaned and lacquered and the floor repainted. Copper Firescreen F109 Original, quality wrought iron firescreen frame, with an inset deep relief decorated copper panel, circa 1900/1920's. The blacksmith made wrought iron frame is in the Art Nouveau style, with open twist baskets in the side uprights and the copper panel depicts a viking ship on the waves. Has been cleaned, the copper polished and lacquered and the wrought iron repainted black and all is complete and in good order. 30" high, 20.75" and 8.5" front to back at feet. 	Copper Firescreen F108 Original, quality wrought iron firescreen frame, with an inset deep relief decorated copper panel, circa 1900/1920's. The blacksmith made hand wrought iron frame is in the Art Nouveau style and the copper panel looks to be Newlyn but it is not marked; this panel depicts a galleon on rough seas, with two large fish looking on. All is complete and in good order; a fabulous looking firescreen, polished and lacquered. 32.5" x 26.75" and 10.5" front to back at feet. Panel only 24" x 19". Pair of Pierced Steel Fenders F108 A pair of original, quality mid 19th Century pierced steel fenders, with brass top and bottom trims. The two do vary a little in length, but otherwise are identical. The steel panels, with delicate piercing, have been cleaned and repainted black and the brass polished and lacquered. 	Brass Fender F107 Original, quality 1920's brass fire kerb, mounted with square brass tube sections and a flat brass top trim. All has been polished and lacquered and, although there are various dents and scuffs, it is a presentable brass fender; complete and in good order. An unusual example. Pierced Steel Fender F98 Original, quality, early 19th century, serpentine shaped steel fender with a super fine pierced design, a shallow return, a shaped bottom front trim and a half round bead to the top. All has been cleaned and lacquered and is complete and in good order. External 46.75" x 4.75" high and internal 45.75" x 4.5" and 9.75" front to back at the deepest point. 	Mirrored Firescreen F96 Original quality, late 19th century, brass framed fire screen with a bevelled mirror panel with a painted design to the glass of roses and the original sheet lead backing. This screen stands on two pairs of feet facing front to back and the brass frame is in a square section with an open design to the top with two Art Nouveau embellishments. Some blemishes to the mirror on the top left corner and a very small chip to the bottom right corner, otherwise all is complete and in good and working order. 30.25" x 17.5" + 8" front to back at base. 	Pierced Brass Fender F88 Original quality, late 19th century, pierced brass fender with cast brass corner posts and top finials and cast brass top and bottom trims. The reverse of the corner mounts are impressed "Kendrick and Gibbons Patent" and the pierced decoration is in triangular panels. Mirror Fire Screen F84 Original quality outstanding brass fire screen with a bevelled and shaped mirror panel insert. The mirror has a large star cut decoration to the centre and the original lead backing sheet to the reverse. The frame is very ornate in an Art Nouveau style and stands on two pairs of splayed legs. The reverse of the frame is stamped with the registration number for the year 1910, and all has been polished and lacquered. Some very minor blemishes to the mirror, one small chip to the edge of the mirror and another larger one to the bottom left hand corner, otherwise complete and in good order. Pair of Cast Iron Mantel Ornaments MO15* Pair of original quality, late 19th century, cast iron mantel ornaments with both a left and a right handed version of a uniformed soldier mounted on a charging horse. The uniform resembles those worn in the Crimean War, so these ornaments may depict the famous Charge of the Light Brigade at the Battle of Balaclava in 1854. Both are embossed to the reverse with the registration number for the year 1894, 40 years after the battle. These have been cleaned and finished in a coat of clear lacquer. The one facing to the left did have an old repair using a rivetted section of iron plate, now removed and a new weld repair has been made to the reverse being barely visible from the front.
