Both pieces have the remains of a greyish masonry type paint to the outside, although the red terracotta does show through and the interior is just a dusty colour from the recently removed soil. This urn has remained in the same family and in the same large conservatory in Weston Super Mare since it was purchased new around 1900/1910. The vase of the urn is sat upon the neck and a section of scaffold pipe is pushed through to assist, for the small male peg on the base of the urn has broken off, but is still wedged in the lower section, see picture. Both the side loop handles are missing, but the pair of heads to each side, originally beneath the loop handles, are still intact. The top rim of the urn has an egg and dart decoration to match that on the neck and apart from the loops missing, the damage to the male peg and various minor chips overall, it is in generally good order without sections missing, large chips or cracks and a seriously good looker and of course bearing a magic name.
