Set of Domestic Scales and Weights S55* Set of original quality, late 19th century, cast iron domestic scales, with the original steel pan, and a full set of matching weights standing to the front of the scale base. Much of the original paintwork has been retained and all has been fully overhauled, cleaned and lacquered. The six original cast iron weights are from 7lb. down to 4oz., with a 2oz. and 1oz. flat brass weight. The whole can be lifted and carried by using the ring grip to each side. The inside of the steel pan is discoloured and a little pitted, but it has no holes and the set of scales overall is very usable for the kitchen. Salter Clockwork Spit SB13 Original, quality, late 19th century brass 'Bottle Jack' clockwork spit, complete with the original brass key and cast iron wheel, with the four sliding rings. The bottle jack is impressed to the underside "Salter Warranted 25". This has been fully overhauled and will run for just over one and a half hours with one wind and would have been used suspended in front of an open fire from a bracket on the mantel shelf, to cook a leg of lamb, a small chicken or game. These were often cast at bell foundries as this one is in "Latten", the 'bronze' material. This example is marked to the handle for "Clement Tosear" the bell founder from Salisbury, Wiltshire. Both the father and son had the same names and founded bells and other items from 1679 to 1717 at the Florey Foundry. T&C Clark Coffee Grinder CG17* Original quality, 19th century, very decorative cast iron coffee mill. Quite the prettiest we have had to date. Impressed in script to the underside 'T&C Clark Registered Feb 17 1842 No 1100'. The cast iron body, the pull out drawer and the cranked handle, all have acanthus leaf decoration in deep relief and the oval brass plate to the front has a Royal Coat of Arms and details 'T&C Clarke & Co Improved Coffee Mill'. The original brass knob to the drawer and the turned extoic hardwood knob to the grinding handle are both in good order. The two side lugs, in a rope twist design, were to secure the grinder to the shelf or table and the grind can be adjusted by using a screw driver through the aperture underneath with the drawer, when out. The original finish is long gone I'm afraid, for this was painted in a later cream paint, which has been removed and it has been finished in a coat of clear lacquer. Last, but not least, the original brass hopper was badly corroded and beyond repair, so we have fitted a replacement bowl made to suit copied from the original. Overall a super very early, very usable cast iron coffee grinder. Base 6.75" wide including lugs, 5.75" front to back, 7.75" high including knob and 9" wide including handle. York Minster Font Coffee Grinder CG15* Original quality, 19th century, cast iron, table model, coffee grinder manufactured by A Kenrick & Sons of West Bromwich. Modelled on the font in York Mister Abbey. This example has the original finish still to the underside, the original inner tray and turned hardwood knob grip. All has been cleaned, fully overhauled and is complete and in good and working order. A replacement locking spring catch has been fitted, copied from an original. The underside is impressed 'AK & Sons' for the manufacturer and the registration number for the year 1894. A very hard to find coffee grinder, in superb order. Set of 5 Doulton Harvest Jugs J35 Set of five original quality two tone, glazed harvest jugs in graduated sizes, manufactured by Doulton & Co Lambeth and all impressed to the front 'Mr and Mrs Dunn June 11th 1905'. Each jug is two tone with dark glaze to the upper half and buff coloured to the lower and all are decorated with applied reliefs of gents drinking and smoking and of a horse with a rider and hounds chasing a stag. All are complete and the largest and smallest are perfect but the other three do have some damage which does not detract from their appearance. The largest of the three with some damage has a star crack to the front, hardly visible. The second has a chip and short hairline to the top rim and a horizontal hairline to the front and the third has chips to the rim only. All the decoration and the glaze otherwise is perfect, sharp and bright. The underside is impressed with an oval mark detailing 'Doulton & Co Lambeth'. Loveridge Milk and Sugar Bowl Set J22* Original quality pressed brass milk/cream jug and sugar bowl with lid. Impressed to the underside of both with a large registration lozenge mark for '24th Jan 1881', 'The Pekin' and 'Henry Loveridge & Co'. The lid, with its turned ebony knob, may well be from the teapot of the set, which is sadly not available. H.Loveridge & Co was a respected manufacturer in Wolverhampton, famous for its metal ware and papier mâché household ware and produced items designed by Dr Christopher Dresser. This pair does have an Arts & Crafts feel about them. Both items have good tinning to the interior, are free of any dents and are perfect. Day & Millward 12" Ceramic Scale Plate S115* Original, quality, mid to late 19th century, heavy, circular, glazed white ceramic scale plate, as used with weighing groceries, cold meats and dairy goods on a counter beam scale. This slab, with not a chip or crack in sight, is unusual in that it has red transfer decoration and not black. The detail show the scales of justice to the centre with a Royal Coat of Arms above and 'Day & Millward Patentees Birmingham'. Avery Shop Counter Scales S95* Set of original, quality, 1920's, grocer's shop counter scales manufactured by W&T Avery Ltd. The main body is in white enamel on cast iron with a fan shaped centre section glazed to each side with the moving needle inside. For weighing below 1lb the dial is to be read and for above 1lb, weights need to be added accordingly to the brass slab. The adjustable feet and various other fittings attached are also in brass, the food slab is in white ceramic with a crest for W&T Avery applied and the same crest appears on one panel of the central upright section. The base unit is marked in green paint 'White Knight' to both sides, 'To weigh 10lb' and 'British Made at Birmingham, England' to the other. The china slab has several chips to the underside and the enamel to the body has a few chips here and there, but generally this scale is very bright and clean, complete and in good and working order. This scale looks like a boring 'Shop Fan Scale', but this example is earlier, better quality and much more interesting than most similar scales, and still has the customs and excise impressed lead stamp to the central section. Oval Stoneware Crock DP70* Original quality, 19th century, glazed oval shaped stoneware crock in the form of a cooper made barrel tub with hoops. The exterior is in a pale brown colour and the inside a near cream. The front is embossed with a ribbon banner with flowers over and the details 'Mrs Hunter' and beneath the side handles it is impressed '2' for the size, say 2 gallons and for the maker 'H Kennedy, Barrow? Pottery, Glasgow'. There is a firing crack around some of the bottom edge inside, which is visible from both the inside and out, but it does not leak, otherwise it is in super order with no chips or glazing damage. Engraved Brass Skimmer SK6* Original quality superbly engraved decorative brass skimmer, manufactured by 'Pearson & Page' and stamped to the reverse with the registration number for the year 1919. The highly engraved detail is mainly of flowers, vine leaves and acanthus leaves. The stem to the handle is in the form of entwining serpents beneath a pair of feathered wings. A good repair has been made to the stem and all is now complete and in good order. The main spoon area is engraved again and pierced with Fleur de Lis motifs. 22" x 7.75" + 5.5" front to back. Brass Skimmer SK1* Original quality superb pierced brass dairy skimmer with a shaped bowl and tapered handle with a celtic type design to the top. The bowl has an unusual shaped piercing and two rivets fixing it to the shaft, stamped to the reverse with the registration number for the year 1910. So although this looks 18/19th century, it was probably manufactured by Peerage in the early 1900's, never the less, a superb, very clean example. Grimwades "Lentils" Storage Jar SJ62* Original quality, 1920's, Grimwades white ceramic storage jar with hoops in relief and a lift off lid, etched to the front is "Lentils". This example is the smallest of seven sizes manufactured and is transfer detailed to the underside of the base and the lid. Under the base it reads in green "The Grimwades Hooped Household jar supplied in 7 sizes 4.5" inch to 10.5", Sago, Rice, Tapioca, Raisins, Currants, Flour, Meal, Salt, Sugar, Peas, Oatmeal, Barley, Sultanas and Lentils". R Fry & Co Counter Ginger Beer Flagon SJ55* Original, quality two tone glazed stoneware giant ginger beer bottle, circa 1900. Manufactured for dispensing ginger beer from the shop counter. The tap hole at the base would be on the shop keepers side and the other would be viewed by the customer in the shop. The elaborate detail to the transfer printed crest etc includes 'R Frys & Co Ltd' two fish on a shield and 'Hastings, Brighton & Eastbourne'. The screw on stopper is missing the lower half and has a few chips. The main flagon has retained its galvanised carrying handle and the body is impressed '2'. Some chips to the top and bottom edges but otherwise all is in good order and complete. A super transfer printed counter ginger beer. 8" diameter x 19" tall with the handle down. Grimwades Oval Currants Storage Jar SJ49* Original quality oval shaped, off white, ceramic kitchen storage jar with green printing and decoration manufactured by Grimwade. The base has 'Currants' with a laurel wreath with ribbon beneath, a beaded pattern under the top rim and is detailed to the underside 'Hygienic Household Jar, Note Its Merits, Oval Shape, Rounded Interior, Cover That Serves As Scoop So That Contents Need Not Be Touched By Hand' and the 'Registration Number 550735' for the year 1909. The lid also has a beaded decoration to the top outside edge, a central flower design and a repeat of what is beneath the jar base under the lid. The scoop/lid is perfect, but the base is rather crazed and discoloured. There is an underglaze chip to the front of the base, a proper chip towards the back and it does sound rather dull to the tap, otherwise all is complete.
