The two side lugs, in a rope twist design, were to secure the grinder to the shelf or table and the grind can be adjusted by using a screw driver through the aperture underneath with the drawer, when out. The original finish is long gone I'm afraid, for this was painted in a later cream paint, which has been removed and it has been finished in a coat of clear lacquer. Last, but not least, the original brass hopper was badly corroded and beyond repair, so we have fitted a replacement bowl made to suit copied from the original. Overall a super very early, very usable cast iron coffee grinder. Base 6.75" wide including lugs, 5.75" front to back, 7.75" high including knob and 9" wide including handle.
