Original, quality, heavy base of a World War One brass shellcase, now converted to an ashtray and mounted with a military brass button to the centre- to stub out cigarettes. The button details "New Zealand Forces" and the underside of the shellcase base is impressed "1928", "45in HOWr. Lot A241". Polished and lacquered, although the lacquer may be removed if required at no extra cost. It is in good order. Base 5.25" diameter x 1.25" tall.

Original, quality, ashtray fashioned using the base of a Second World War brass shellcase. Three cigarette rests have been mounted to the top rim, a "Royal Artillery New Zealand" brass cap badge is fitted to the front and the centre pinhole is covered with a brass button embossed "New Zealand Forces". The underside of the shell is stamped "25 pr MK2 Blank", "NN2", "Lot 403", "1945" for the year and others. All is in good order and has been polished and laquered, although the lacquer may be removed if required at no extra cost. Shell base 4" diameter, 2.25" tall x 5" widest.

Original, quality 1920's/30's, half pint tankard, with a side handle and a military crest affixed to the front, with a lion on a crown above and detailed "Honi Soit L.V.Pense" and "Sancte et Sapienter" which translates to' Shamed be he who thinks evil of it' and 'With holiness and with wisdom'. All is in super condition with no wear to the silver plate. 3.25" tall, base 3" diameter and 4" wide including handle.

Often referred to as 'A Death Penny', this example was awarded posthumously to 'John Boys' and is embossed around the outer edges "He Died For Freedom and Honour". 4.75" diameter.

1914 Princess Mary Brass Box M61
Original, quality, pressed brass tin in the original matt gilt finish, with an embossed hinged lid bearing a cameo of Princess Mary, two 'M' monograms and panels around it with the names of countries allied to Great Britain in the 1st World War; Belgium, Japan, Russia, Monte Negro, Serria and France. Complete and in good order. These brass tins, containing a variety of items dependant on the recipient, were given to all British troops serving overseas for Christmas 1914. The funds for these were raised by Princess Mary, daughter of King George V. Most but not all of the tins were issued with a pack of cigarettes, a pack of tobacco, a Christmas card in an envelope, a printed photo. of Princess Mary and a silver tipped brass shell case with a pencil inside. All items were marked with the monogram 'M' with a crown over. This tin is without contents. 3.5" x 5" x 1.25". Other polished examples may be available, ref M37.

1st World War Trench Saw M30
Original quality hand chain saw in a leather wallet as issued to the British Troops in the trenches during the 1st World War, 1914 - 1918. These saws were used for cutting down shoring timbers for the trench walls. This example is complete, all original and has the pair of wooden handgrips, with brass ferrules, the sharpening file and the saw wrest for adjusting the teeth. The brass grips to the steel saw are stamped 'Francis Wood & Sons Sheffield 1917', the wrest 'Newey & Sons Ltd', the file 'Burys & Co Sheffield' and the case 'Finchmarch Bros 1916'. This example is the best we have seen, appears not to have been used and is in superb order. Case 7" x 6.5" x 1.5".

This example portrays 'General Foch' of the French Troops during World War One, with his uniform jacket and hat. The bust has an impressed signature "Coffin", to one side and the base has a brass plaque detailing "Foch 1851 - 1928". A super bust, in super condition and complete. Plinth 3.5" square x 11.5" tall + 5.5" widest x 4" front to back.

Set of 3 Bayonet Fire Irons F319
Set of three original, quality, fireside tools comprising- tongs, poker and shovel, all made with re-fashioned, late 19th century, French bayonets. Each of the spines are engraved with detail and dated "1877 and 1879". All have matching wood and brass handles, with the locking mechanisms intact. The tongs were made using two bayonets and the shovel and poker have had extra sections added. These are known fire iron conversions, I have owned a few sets over the years, but they are not common. I understand a store of these bayonets were discovered in France during the 1920's and were later converted to fireside implements. Great looking fire irons, complete and in good and working order. Shovel 27.25" x 5", tongs 25.25" x 4", poker 25.5" x 4". Price is for the set.

Cast Iron Civil War Memorial Door Porter DP39
Original, quality, superbly detailed, cast iron door porter, we think issued to commemorate the end of the US Civil War; for the registration lozenge mark to the reverse is for the year 1865, and the Civil War was 1854 to 1865. The detail includes a sabre, a musket with bayonet, cannons and balls, flags and pennant lances and various other items, all mounted on a plinth with a wreath of laurel leaves to the top, in the form of a memorial. The reverse is impressed with the registration lozenge mark for the year 1865, 'No 183575' and '670'. Several very minor repairs have been made, all has been cleaned and lacquered and is complete and in superb order. 17.5" high, 9.5" wide at base and 5" front to back at base.

Pair of Cast Iron Mantel Ornaments MO15
Pair of original quality, late 19th century, cast iron mantel ornaments with both a left and a right handed version of a uniformed soldier mounted on a charging horse. The uniform resembles those worn in the Crimean War, so these ornaments may depict the famous Charge of the Light Brigade at the Battle of Balaclava in 1854. Both are embossed to the reverse with the registration number for the year 1894, 40 years after the battle. These have been cleaned and finished in a coat of clear lacquer. The one facing to the left did have an old repair using a rivetted section of iron plate, now removed and a new weld repair has been made to the reverse being barely visible from the front. Both are now complete and in good order, an impressive pair of castings. Base 12.5", height 9.25" and 2" front to back. Price is for the pair.

1914/1919 Peace Mug CC76
Original, quality white ceramic mug, with a side loop handle and decorated to the back and front to commemorate the end of the 1st World War. The front has four flags of the allies, a dove of peace on a globe and "The Great World War 1914 - 1919". Lord Fisher and a Cameo of a British bulldog above 'The Navy' in upper case. 2. King George V and a cameo of Britannia, above 'The Empire'. 3. Admiral Beatty and a cameo of a warship, above 'The Navy'. 4. Earl Roberts and a cameo of an Indian Army Soldier, above 'India'. 5. Earl Kitchener and a cameo of a British Soldier, above 'The Army'. 6. Duke of Connaught and a cameo of a soldier, above 'Canada'. The reverse of the spoons are all marked 'Patent applied for, Birks EPNS' and have garlands of roses, shamrocks and thistles for England, Ireland and Scotland. A super part set of commeratives, the first we have seen. Each spoon 6" x 1.2" x 0.5". Price is for the set.

Bullet Picnic Corkscrew CS122
Original, quality 1920's picnic corkscrew, with a sheath fashioned from a brass bullet, looks to be a 303. The sheath is tapered and will fit snugly into the loop on top of the corkscrew, and thus serving as a handle and when not in use the corkscrew will thread into the bullet sheath. All has been polished and lacquered, although the lacquer may be removed if required at no extra cost. Complete and in good and working order. Closed 4.5" x 0.5", open 3" x 3.25".

Original, quality boxwood rule with fold down sides in brass and a lock on or off compass, secured with a brass cover engraved "W.H Harling London No144", "1901" and "WD". The underside has the manufacturer's details including "Verners Improved, Sight Rule" and the registration number for the year 1895. A superb boxwood gauge with its original brown leather case. Original, quality 1920's, silver plated tantalus, with a locking top cover, the original key and the three original cut glass decanters with stoppers. The underside is stamped for the maker "WMF" and the top section beneath the carry handle is engraved "Presented To Major E.R. O'Connor M.C. by NCO's and Men of C.Coy, on His Retirement After 36 Years Service" and "The Kings Own", with the lion passant. Not a chip or any damage to the three cut glass decanters or stoppers and no rubbing to the silver plate, in fact all is in super order, a good bright finish and complete. An unusual tantalus with a military connection. Base 13.5 x 5" x 14.5" tall.

ARP Handbell B128
Original, quality, cast brass handbell, with the original turned beech handle and cast iron ball and chain clapper. The rim is impressed "ARP" for 'Air Raid Personnel', the brass ferrule is stamped "Fiddian" and the top of the bell "JB" for the maker 'James Barwell, of Birmingham' and "39" for the year 1939. This bell was provided for use by Air Raid Personnel to warn of air bombing raids overhead during World War Two. 'Fiddian' is the trade mark for the manufacturer of the bell 'James Barwell, of Birmingham'. All has been polished and lacquered, although the lacquer may be removed if required at no extra cost. Complete and in good and working order, with a good resonance. Mouth of bell 5" x total height including handle 10".
