4 Piece Set of Bayonet Fire Irons FI223

These were made circa 1870, with steel bayonets with wood and brass grips and made around 1895 (for the shovel pan is stamped with the registration number for the same year, and has been used with nothing else). Each bayonet has various armourer's marks to both the guard and the blade, and the tongs have been fashioned from the bayonet and the sheath. Each spine of the blades is engraved in French and with a date. Two are 1877, one is 1878 and the other is illegible. I have had other sets of these bayonet fire irons before, always using the same type of bayonet, and always only three pieces. This is the first I have seen with a brush and is most certainly the best set I have seen to date, and what a wild shape to the tongs. All is complete and in amazing condition. Poker 27" x 4" x 1.5", tongs 24.5" x 1.5", shovel 27" x 5" x 1.5" and brush 27.5" x 4" x 1.5". Price is for the set.

Original, quality cocktail shaker manufactured from 1918 to 1921 by The Gorham Company in the US. One of the tallest cocktail shakers ever produced. The underside of both the brass shellcase and the nickel shaker are both impressed 'Fac-Simile Eighteen Pounder Shrapnel Shell' and 'Patent Applied for in America & Foreign Countries'. The brass lower section is also engraved with a large upper cased 'R' for the previous owner. The brass nose cone, although a tight fit, will pull off to enable the shaker to be filled and the small nose will also pull off to reveal the pouring spout and filter. Alas, no cocktail glasses, if there ever were any but otherwise all is complete and in good and working order. A spectacular, very unusual piece. Base diameter 4".

Campaign Tent Pole Coatrack CH344
Campaign Tent Pole Coatrack CH344
Original, quality, late 19th Century coatrack with eight brass coathooks and one long brass coathook, all mounted on a leather strap with a brass buckle and ribbed rubber backing. This was to be strapped onto the centre pole in a military tent, whilst out on campaign or training. The long hook was probably used to hang either a lantern or a shaving mirror. The leather strap is brittle and the ribbed rubber backing has perished a little and may prove difficult to keep it up the pole, but it would have done so originally; they really did work. The brass has been polished and lacquered and, other than the rubber and leather, all is complete and in good order. Long hook 4.5" front to back and leather strap 1.5".
