Large Silver Witches Ball
Large Silver Witches Ball
Original, quality, late 19th century, silver coloured free blown 'witches ball' with a neck and a sheared top, a later wire loop for hanging has been fitted and the original string net is included. This super example has a few blemishes to the mercury mirror interior, some good glass blowing lines, otherwise complete and in good order. We have not seen these in the nets before. These glass balls are said to have properties to ward off evil and witches, but I believe they were used in the larger houses and shops to throw around the light from the candle and oil lighting. Other similar balls may well be available.

14" tall including neck but excluding wire.

12" diameter.
