The principle of this kettle is for the leaves to be placed above the perforated divider when the teapot is stood on its feet with the lid in place, and when the brew is the desired strength the teapot is to be stood as normal and hence the leaves would be held out of the liquid so the tea would not over strengthen (stew). The knob to the lid is made of a composition material and the plating is generally very bright and clean.
