Original quality post office issued cast iron letter box, to fit on a lamp post or telegraph pole. This example was issued from 1912 to 1936 and includes the original wrought iron mounting loops, lock and key. The original enamel collection plate is not available, but we have included a plastic coated photocopy of an original. This box has been repainted inside and out by a previous owner and has "Letters only" embossed above the posting slot and in upper case "GR" below. All has been fully overhauled and is complete and in good and working order. 20.5" tall x 8.5" wide + 13.75" front to back, aperture 4.5" x 1.25".

Original quality post office supplied wall mounted cast iron letter box issued from 1912 to 1936. This example has a good original Chubb lock and key and an enamelled collection plate and has "Post Office" embossed to the hood of the posting slot under a crown and an upper case "GR" to the bottom of the door. The makers name "A.T. Allan and Co of London" is also embossed to the lower frame. All has been fully overhauled and is complete and in good and working order. Front 33.50" x 13.75" + 15" front to back, 12" to be recessed.

Some damage to the outer edge, but very little beyond the black boarder and one area of enamel missing on the letter 'S' of 'Insurance', otherwise a clear bright sign. 26" x 12".

Original, quality curved cast iron plaque from a telegraph pole, pre 1922. Detailing 'LYR' (Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway) and "Persons Throwing Stones at the Telegraphs Will Be Prosecuted". This example has four corner countersunk screw holes for mounting and has been cleaned and repainted in gloss black with gold letters, not necessarily the original colours. A very unusual item. Complete and in good order.7.5" x 5" x 1.5" front to back.

Mordan Postal Balance PS29
Original set of quality, brass postal scales with a full set of seven, original, brass and brass cased, circular flat weights, all mounted on the original oak base with four bun feet. The scales are stamped for the manufacturer 'S. Mordan & Co, London' and the letter slab is marked 'Letter Post, Inland not over 4oz, 1d each extra 2oz 1/2d', 'British Empire 1d per oz Egypt & USA' and 'Other Countries not over 1oz 2 1/2 d and each extra 1oz 1 1/2d'. These are the postal rates from 1897 to 1915. The weights are marked 'oz 16' x 2, 'oz 8', 'oz 4', 'oz 2' and 'oz 1' x 2, the top being a cottage loaf shaped one. All has been polished and lacquered and is complete and in good and working order; a super set of scales. Base 12.75" x 6.75" and 6.75" tall. Price is for the set.

The scales are stamped 'Warranted Accurate', and the ivorine plaque details the cost of postage for both letters and parcels. The scale of charges here are for the years from 1897 to 1906. All is in superb condition, complete and in good and working order. Base 13" x 9" x 1.5", scales 7" high.

Original, quality, 19th century, cast brass postal balance with the original set of 7 circular brass weights, all on the rectangular mahogany base. The scales are marked "S. Mordan and Co, London" for the manufacturer Samson Mordan and Company. The flat weights are marked '16', '8', '4', '2' and '1' all over 'P' and 'F4' on the shaped top weight. Weights marked in this way were used for postage from 1840 to 1871 only. A top of the range set of letter scales, complete and in good and working order. Plinth 10" x 5" x 1", 4.75" tall, larger pan 3.75" diameter.

Original, quality, 1920's, cast iron parcel scale with a flat steel weighing slab and a circular brass dial with a central pointer. The face is calibrated in pounds and ounces up to 56lb and is impressed "Salter's Improved Railway Parcel Balance No22, Silvesters Patent" and "Made in England" with the knotted rope (the trade mark of Salter and Co). All has been cleaned, lacquered and fully overhauled, complete, working and superb order. An unusual example the first we have seen. Base 8.25", dial 7.5" diameter, top slab 14" x 9" + total height 14".

Original, quality pressed tin letter clip balance with a top ring and a lower expanding clip to hold the letter. The gloss finished paper face is detailed in black with calibrations up to 4 ounces and the knotted rope with an arrow through logo and Salter's for the manufacturer 'Salter & Co'. The postal rates shown are for the years 1923 to 1940. The paper dial is curling at two corners but otherwise all is complete and in good and working order. Dial 2" x 1", total 4" x 1" x 0.25".
