Original, quality late 19th century medium sized spherical shaped silver coloured, glass witches ball. These were originally used to mirror the light around a room in the days when candle, oil or firelight was the only source of light other than naturally through the windows. These objects later acquired their superstitious properties of scaring away evil spirits and witches if you are superstitious. Originally these were free blown and silvered to the inside with an early mercury silvering and a brass disc and ring were fitted for these to be suspended with. These were made in a huge range of sizes and colours but are not easy to find these old original ones today. All is complete and in good and working order.

Mahogany Wall Calendar Original, quality wall mounted calendar in a mahogany cabinet with two glass panels to view the month and the day of the month displayed on revolving adjustable canvas type backing. Each roll is controlled by two turned mahogany knobs to one side. The end of one roll is detailed for the maker / retailer "E. N. Mason & Sons Ltd Colchester 1937 G. R. V. I." and "G.R VI" is for the reign of King George the 6th. The top of the cabinet has an applied label detailing "Fairfield S. & E. Co Ltd Boran Glasgow" and an impressed mark to the corner of the cabinet "JR" under a Royal Crown. These names and details would confirm this was issued to and used by a government department. All is complete and in good and working order with no damage or repairs to the winding mechanism or material rolls. A most unusual example.

All standing on a rectangular oak plinth. The door has a 'Bramah' lock and key and a lift-out glazed panel for inserting the postal collection times. Original, quality Second World War Issue, oil hand lamp very similar if not identical to the 'Railway Guards' hand signal lantern. This version issued to the war dept is dated 1945, and for the maker "C Eastgate & Son Birmingham", it has the original green paintwork, the original oil font, burner and wick and the two colour signal cylinder, red and blue for Stop & Go. Although the paint is chipped and flaking in place, all is complete and in good and working order otherwise, with the brass polished and lacquered, although the lacquer may be removed at no extra cost. Unusual to find one so complete and in presentable order.

Original, quality, superb leather, heavy horse martingale with four commemorative brass faceplates, circa 1900. The two lower brasses were issued after the death of Queen Victoria and are engraved 'Victoria the Good 1819 - 1901' and the two upper brasses were to celebrate the coronation of King Edward VII in 1902 and are engraved 'God Save the King Edward VII'. The leatherwork is in good order throughout and is fitted with two original brass buckles. A stunning set of brasses difficult to better. Polished and lacquered, although the lacquer may be removed at no extra cost. Complete and in good order.

French Flint Millstone Original, quality 18th or early 19th century small circular millstone, originally used for grinding down wheat for flour etc. Two similar stones were used with the grooved surfaces to each other. This example is cut from French Flint blocks and has a square hole to the centre and radiating grooves to take the ground result out of the sides. The non-grooved surfaced is domed to ensure maximum weight onto the lower stone. Complete and in good order.

This example has a drawer to the floor inside and the reverse of the door has the original transfer detailing for the manufacturer "Birmingham Safe Co Burnside" and "Bent Steel, Fire & Burglar Resisting Safe Manufacturer Birmingham". The paintwork is plum red to the exterior and cream to the interior. The door and lock mechanisms have been fully overhauled with two keys for the door and one for the inner drawers. Original, quality late 19th century wirework nursery fender with a sheet steel floor and a brass trim to the top. This example in super condition has been cleaned and repainted black, the floor is a replacement made to suit and the brass top rail has been polished and lacquered, although the lacquer may be removed at no extra cost. Each side has a wire loop towards the top to secure to a hook. All is complete and in good and working order.

Original, quality leather cased 30 metre tape measure with brass fittings, a leather side strap and a very clean inner tape. The case is embossed for the manufacturer "Rabone Chesterman Ltd" the winding handle is stamped "30 m" and the reverse of the leather case is impressed "1979" for the year of manufacturer and with the war dept "Broad Arrow". The brass has been polished and lacquered, although the lacquer may be removed at no extra cost and all is complete and in good and working order.

Original, quality 18th or early 19th century very small blacksmith made wrought iron box iron with the original turned dark wood handle and lifting gate at the rear end but sadly lacking the heating slug, otherwise all is complete and in good order. A most unusual size and sprung gate facility. Cleaned and waxed.

Original, quality late 19th century cast brass bell shaped bankers' counter weight impressed "Sov'gn 300" to the top of the open ring grip. A most unusual weight to find today and in very clean condition. Has been polished and lacquered, although the lacquer may be removed at no extra cost and is complete and in good and working order.

Original, quality, superb three branch candelabra, circa 1900, with an octagonal shaped cut glass column, a square and stepped base and mounted to the top with a cast brass corinthian capital. The three curved brass branches each with rings to the ends, support pressed glass saucers, with pressed glass domes or the alternative fine glass shades / chimneys. These lights are used with small nightlight candles. The brass ring holders are stamped "Clarke's Trade Mark Cricklite" to the inside. The corinthian capital is stamped "Clarke's Cricklite". The pressed glass saucers are embossed to the insides "Clarke's Patent Trade Mark Cricklite " with a dancing fairy to the centre and the alternative fine chimneys are mounted with pressed brass collars to the bases in the original matt gilt finish. Either but not both sets of chimneys or dome covers are included with the candelabra. A few very, very, minor chips to the column base, otherwise all is complete and in good and working order.

Original, quality late 19th century blacksmith made wrought iron exterior ring door handles on the original decorative cast iron backplates. With a square bar included to fit standard mortice locks and latches. Each backplate has four screw holes for mounting and all has been cleaned and repainted black. Complete and in good and working order and ideal for the larger doors.

Pair of Large Brass Drop Ring Handles See our "Door Handles, Knobs & Pulls" section for current stock of similar items.
Original, quality pair of mid to late 19th century large cast brass drop door handles with decorated shaped backplates to fit a mortice lock with a standard square hole for the bar. Each backplate has a keyhole with a swinging cover which lines up with the other. The keyholes can be blind or they will need to match those on the mortice lock chosen or these door handles can each be used behind two separate rim locks. The reverse of one of these fittings is detailed "S&H Pitts Patent". This pair of exceptional door fittings are of superb quality in very good condition and are the first we have seen. The steel square bar may need to be shortened to suit the door being fitted, otherwise they are ready to put into use. All is complete and in good and working order.

Interior Brass Air Vent Original, quality pre-war cast brass interior air vent with an open and close sliding control. This super quality example has six vent slots and six countersunk screw holes for mounting. Original, quality late 19th century heavy cast brass surface mounted door bolt of huge proportions with a steel sliding bar, a decorative finial grip, a second thick steel backplate for strength and a replacement keep made to suit. The bolt backplate has nine countersunk screw holes for mounting and the keep has four. All has been polished and lacquered, although the lacquer may be removed at no extra cost and is complete and in good and working order.

Original, quality late 17th or early century bell originally mounted within a road hauliers set of Team Bells. This super example in the original unpolished green colour, is complete with the iron clapper and top eye for suspension but most of all the inside is detailed "WR Cor" with the dabchick motive above. This attributes the bell to be made by William & Robert 1. Cor of Aldbourne in Wiltshire. A great colour, a great sound and complete and in good and working order.

Wheelwrights Traveller Original, quality, mid to late 19th century, all brass wheelwright's traveller in the original patinated unpolished green colour. These were used to measure around the outside of a wooden cart or coach wheel before making the correct size wrought iron tyre. This super example is calibrated to the outer rim of the wheel and is stamped "S. Evans, Bagshot", this could be the previous owner, the wheelwright using it or the maker of the traveller. Complete and in good and working order.

Warners London Jubilee Handbell See our "Bells" section for current stock of similar items.
Original, quality late 19th century medium sized brass handbell with the original leather disc and strap handle but missing the internal clapper assembly. This otherwise good example appears to have an old repaired short crack but still rings well. The leather grip is impressed "G" and the leather disc is impressed for the bell foundry "Warners of Cripplegate London". But probably the most important feature of all is the engraving in script "Queens Jubilee Year 1887" to commemorate Queen Victoria's Golden Jubilee of 50 years on the Throne.

Brass & Cast Iron Tethering Ring Original, quality late 19th century wall mounted animal tethering ring in cast brass mounted on a roseattte shaped, cast iron circular backplate. The brass is polished and lacquered, although the lacquer may be removed at no extra cost and the backplate has been cleaned and repainted black. All is complete and in good and working order. A most unusual example, the first we have seen.

Pair of original, quality late 19th century "Milk Churn" shaped steel dairy cans of an unusual form both with the original brass fittings, and rear brass swing over loop handles. The dome-topped lids are impressed "Mount Clare", the brass hinged plates are stamped "The Standard Milk Can Trademark" and the front is stamped for the makers "Dairy Outfit Company King Cross London". All have been cleaned and lacquered and are complete and in good order. The first we have seen of this shape.
