But most of all look at the engraving to the shoulders and the finial to the lid, one side has two union flags, "October 17 1899" and "May 18 1900" and "B.P" for General Baden Powell. The other side is engraved "Mafeking". Baden Powell was successful in relieving the troops held down in "Mafeking", during the campaign wars in South Africa. Baden Powell was later renowned for setting up the Boy Scout Movement. This kettle is the first we have seen and initially I was not sure if the finial to the lid was a later addition but I believe it now to be original. 12" tall x 8" wide and 11.5" front to back including spout.
