Burgess Leigh Ceramic Teapot
Burgess Leigh Ceramic Teapot
See our "Kettles & Tea Related" section for current stock of similar items.

Original, quality superb highly decorated ceramic teapot manufactured by Burgess & Leigh, the Middleport Pottery Burslem Staffordshire in 1896. The coloured transfer designs of Indian scenes with elephants are to both sides and to the lid. What also is of great interest to me are the following facts. The shape and colouring of the teapot is almost an exact copy of the Huntley & Palmer's 'INDIAN' tin of 1894. It appears that it was such a 'steal' of the biscuit tins' design that Huntley & Palmers threatened legal proceedings against the Pottery firm; only when Burgess & Leigh agreed to produce all further teapots in the monochrome version, did Huntley & Palmers apparently take no further action. The underside of the pot lid is printed with the registration number for the year 1896. This teapot is both beautiful and perfect. Complete and in good and working order
